“It turns out that the people doing Big Day Out didn’t end up wanting City & Colour to be on it.” So said Dallas Green last May after teasing fans with the prospect of a City and Colour tour Down Under to support the release of new album, The Hurry And The Harm.

His comments that Big Day Out bookers had “overlooked” his interest in joining the annual festival’s 2014 touring lineup followed Green telling fans that he was keen on hitting our shores as soon as possible; “I would come there tomorrow (if I could) because I love it so much,” he said last month. “So I hope it’s in January, and we’ll leave it at that.”

But now it’s confirmed that a City and Colour tour is happening a lot sooner than January.

Green took to his twitter last night to announce “AUSTRALIA: now that you’re listening, a 2 part announcement is coming your way tomorrow – 9am Sydney time.” Lo and behold, today arrives the dates for a 2013 Australian Tour from the popular singer-songwriter, leaked by the Toorak Times, noting that Green will be arriving in the country to perform two special intimate acoustic shows to promote the release of his new album, The Hurry And The Harm, in just two weeks.

Green has also promised to drop into the Triple J studios to reveal details of a huge national tour for later in the year, following on from his two intimate showcases this July. Playing solo and acoustic for these two rare shows, fans who miss out on tickets won’t have to wait long for details of the national run of shows with the full band to be announced for a future visit. “Playing solo and acoustic for these two rare shows… [fans] won’t have to wait long for details of the national [tour] with the full band…”

Given the intimate nature and size of the venues, tickets will of course be in high demand, with a press release noting that there will be a strict limit of two tickets per customer, available through Moshtix and over the counter at usual outlets.

The July visit marks Green’s first visit to the country since the two farewell shows with his former band, Canadian post-hardcore outfit Alexisonfire, but more specifically for City And Colour, his first Australian shows since touring as part of Groovin’ The Moo 2012.

Coincidentally, Green recently revealed that ‘Thirst’, the lead single from The Hurry And The Harm, was originally written for another act sharing the 2012 Groovin’ The Moo bill, namely NZ-via-Melbourne neo-soulstress Kimbra.

The Hurry And The Harm also features a host of esteemed musicians, such as Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather), Bo Koster (My Morning Jacket), and drummer Matt Chamberlin (Pearl Jam, Fiona Apple), to name but a few.

The whole evolution of the sound; I think that’s just a total reaction to where I’m at creatively,” Green told Tone Deaf in a recent interview. “This group of songs just happened. The more I played them and the more I worked on them, the more I heard drums and bass and keyboards and strings and harmonies and things like that.”

The album debuted at #4 on the Australian ARIA Charts, just months after The Hurry And The Harm‘s predecessor, Little Hell, achieved Gold status, and was warmly received by critics; including our Tone Deaf reviewer, who awarded the album a 7.5/10, noting it’s “more mature, sophisticated sound that feels almost lighter on the ears… This much-awaited record does not disappoint.”
