With the Future Music Festival 2014 lineup now announced, with Deadmau5, Phoenix, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis topping the festival’s biggest ever bill, festival organisers have emphasised the new locations and “state of the art” sound that will grace next year’s edition.
Presented by the new alliance forged between Michael Gudinski’s Frontier Touring and Future, Future Music Festival 2014 has promised to take on punters’ feedback over festival sites from last year to build on the event as it enters its eighth year.
Amongst the star-studded lineup of electronic artists and EDM majors in the Future Music Festival 2014 lineup was also the announcement of a ream of new venues and upgraded sites.
Opening the event on Saturday 1st March, Future Music Festival’s Brisbane leg moves to a brand new home. “Green-friendly, right on the fringe of the city at Bowen Hills and sitting on 22 hectares, the RNA Showgrounds boasts a massive complex of both indoor and outdoor spaces, which will be utilised for stages – meaning you’ll be partying in comfort; rain or shine,” boast Future Music Festival organisers, adding there’s plenty of parking and public transport access.
The festival’s shift in Queensland is mirrored by a new locale for Adelaide, at the historic Adelaide Showgrounds in Wayville, relocating from last year’s stay at Bonython Park in a swap with Big Day Out, who is moving to the park after it had been hosted at the Showgrounds since 1993.
Meanwhile Sydney’s Randwick Racecourse site will be undergoing a major overhaul as apart of a $150 million venue facelift. “Think huge open expanses, state of the art new infrastructure featuring a five-level grandstand, great new VIP and First Class facilities, and the epic debut of the theatre of the horse arena,” tease Future Music organisers of the new look Theatre Of The Horse arena.
“Sip on your drink in five star air-conditioned comfort while catching all the highlights from stages 1 and 2. With all these works now are completed Royal Randwick is ready to roll!” add Future.
All five dates of Future Music Festival 2014 will enjoy “enhanced, state of the art audio… to make sure each punter is drenched in crystal clear sound, at every stage,” namely through “spine-tingling light shows and crystal clear sound, using new technologies such as audio mapping,” add organisers.
“2014 holds a bigger and brighter future for FMF than ever before,” says newly-instated Festival Director Brett Robinson. “We have listened to all the feedback from the 2013 festival and we are committed to making sure that the production levels continue to increase for year to year and, most importantly, the sound quality meets even the most discerning festival-goers’ expectations.”
The 2014 edition is the first of the festival’s under new partnership with Michael Gudinski’s Frontier Touring to present the flagship series, as well as its ‘sister event’, the underage Good Life Festival. A partnership that’s drawn a log of attention recently following reports that companies formerly tied to Future Music Festival entered into liquidation amongst an estimated $500,000 or more owed to creditors of the 2013 editions of Future Music Festival.
The new partnership company, called Future Music Pty Ltd, was forged after Michael Gudinski acquired the trademarks from a ‘mysterious’ third party, while the Frontier Touring boss also purchased Future’s South Melbourne HQ for a reported $3 million.
The Frontier Touring boss has emphasised that the new venture is “an entirely new company… it has nothing to do with those other companies [that are entering liquidation].” Along with Gudisnki, his son Matt and Festival Director Brett Robinson, the new look Future Music Festival has kept on former boss Jason Ayoubi as a consultant, while it was recently revealed that Ayoubi had been embroiled in an ongoing trademark dispute with ice-cream makers Cold Rock that sees them pursuing him for a figure of around $30,000.
Regardless of what’s brewing behind the scenes, Future Music Festival 2014, and its massive lineup, ensures the annual event continues unabated.
