The Golden Plains 2014 playing times have been revealed, with the full, lovingly hand-selected list of artists now joined by a keynote speaker.
The eighth edition of the sister event of Meredith Music Festival is just over a fortnight away, and the set times provide a nice reminder for those that managed to score in the famed ticket ballot for the completely sold out event of the amazing list of bands that are rocking the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre.
There’s many great things about The ‘Sup, but one of its best features is the fact that you know long before the timetable is released that you needn’t worry about pesky clashes thanks to the brilliant single stage setup.
Following burly rockers Sixfthick kicking off the festival on Saturday 8th March, the first evening features a killer run of Aussie acts, with sets from Aussie queen of rock Adalita, the mighty (and mightily hard working) King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and bearded chilltronica star Chet Faker – likely showing off a swag of new material from his forthcoming debut album.
Saturday evening is then given over to indie rock trailblazers Yo La Tengo, a no-doubt visceral set from The Drones, and the Eagle of Soul Charles Bradly, before Flying Lotus kick starts the long night of beat-making delights and dance.
The Sunday features a bevy of the Golden Plains 2014 lineup’s international selections, including much-loved songwriter maverick Neko Case, New Zealand’s Fat Freddy’s Drop, Mexican rebels Los Coronas, Japanese funk ensemble Osaka Monaurail, while the socially-soaked, politically-minded Public Enemy will ‘Bring The Noise’ on Sunday night, before Cut Copy’s grand return to The ‘Sup.
Golden Plains 2014 Playing Times
Along with the set times, benevolent festival matriarch Aunty Meredith has announced the addition of a special keynote speaker for Golden Plains 8, none other than legendary Australian cartoonist, poet, writer, painter, and philosopher Michael Leunig.
Delivering a keynote address entitled ‘Spirit of Country and Sleeping Under The Stars’, “which is something nearly every Golden Plainer does for two nights out there on the proud fields and bushy edges of the Nolan farm,” notes Aunty Meredith; Leunig will be speaking on the Sunday morning of the festival – between early-risers Archer and a lunchtime slot from the Grammy-nominated future-soul outfit, Hiatus Kaiyote.
Aunty Meredith has also reminded festival-goers of the festival’s ‘No D!ckhe@d Policy’ and strict ‘Zero Tolerance’ approach. Reminding punters of the festival’s push against fence-jumpers and trespassers to the annual music festival following last year’s Meredith.
“In recent months, 18 people are due to appear in court charged with trespass in relation to the festivals,” reads the statement. “Regrettably a small number were then charged in relation to Meredith23 in December. The maximum penalty is approximately $2750 or 6 months imprisonment. There are also other ramifications – a criminal conviction can impact employment prospects and in many cases current employment.”
Adding that: “Attempting to get into the festival without a valid ticket is not a harmless bit of fun – it has serious consequences… And that’s something we have to take very seriously, because nothing can come between Meredith, Golden Plains and the integrity of the experience.”
The trespassing prosecutions were also joined late last year by a push from a local politician to crackdown on ticket scalpers targeting Meredith and Golden Plains festival-goers.
So bless your lucky stars if you’ve managed to obtain a ticket to Golden Plains 8. And get set for another year of memory-making wonder.
