The Rolling Stones have just landed in Australia for their highly anticipated Australian tour, but devasting news overnight may derail the tour before it officially kicks off.
L’Wren Scott, an American fashion design who has been Mick Jagger’s girlfriend for more than a decade, was found dead in her New York apartment overnight. According to CNN, early reports suggest she took her own life.. She was 49.
A spokeswoman for New York City Police Department said: “A 49-year-old female was found this morning at 10.05am at 200 11th Avenue. She was unconscious.”
“She was pronounced dead on arrival by the emergency medical services. The investigation is ongoing. We are awaiting medical examiners to determine the cause of death.”
A spokesman for the New York Fire Department confirmed only that firefighters had found a dead body when called to the address to respond to a “possible cardiac arrest”.
A spokesman for Mick Jagger said that the singer was completely shocked and devastated by the news. Jagger, along with his bandmates in The Rolling Stones – Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood – have just landed in Australia for a sold out six-date tour across Australia.
The ‘14 On Fire Tour will see the legendary rock institution playing five ‘one night only’ concerts across capital cities including a sold-out headline performance to an audience of 70,000 to open the refurbished Adelaide Oval, the band’s first performance in the SA capital in two decades.
In addition to the capital cities, the Stones are scheduled to perform a special outdoor concert at Hanging Rock in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges.
Mushroom Group, the parent company of Frontier Touring, were recently given the green light for a new 5-year deal to host more concert events at Hanging Rock, and with the Rolling Stones concert – on Saturday 30th March, 2014 – to follow in the vein of the sold-out and financially lucrative Springsteen Hanging Rock shows from earlier this year, joining a prestigious group that includes Leonard Cohen and Rod Stewart that have performed at the outdoor site.
Tone Deaf has reached out to local promoter Frontier Touring for a statement but have yet to hear back on whether the tour will be postponed for the tragic death of L’Wren Scott. The tour is due to kick off tomorrow night.
According to Triple M, an announcement is going to be made around 9am Perth time, with promoters Frontier Touring hoping to postpone the date in Perth. The radio station is reporting that if the gig is cancelled, a full refund will be issued.
