More Concerts For Hanging Rock As Council Approve Mushroom Deal

The Macedon Range Shire’s councillors have officially given the green light to the 5-year deal from the Mushroom Group to host more concert events at Hanging Rock. A council meeting held last week fell in favour of Mushroom mogul Michael Gudinski, which will allow him to stage up to four concerts annually in the east paddock of the iconic landmark as part of the new deal, which kicks off from 31st October, 2014. Gudinski, a Macedon local, was elated with the news that he could continue hosting concerts, following in the tradition of his sold-out and financially lucrative concerts from Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, and Rod Stewart. “The extended term allows us the ability to plan further ahead,” says Gudinski. “It will mean we can implement a number of exciting initiatives that will help ensure Hanging Rock continues to attract the high-calibre artists we’ve had to date.” Mayor Roger Jukes said surveys showed residents and businesses were in favour of more music events at Hanging Rock, while the new agreement sees an undisclosed increase in licensing fees.
