UB40 front man Ali Campbell is set to headline the Raggamuffin festival. The one and only original voice of ‘Red Red Wine’, ‘Kingston Town’ and ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’, returns to Australia with his new band. As lead singer with the world-renowned group UB40, Campbell has sold over 70 million records worldwide, toured across the globe, notched up four number No. 1 worldwide singles, over 40 Top 40 UK singles, released 24studio albums and received an Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement. Of course UB40 had a very nasty break up, with the acrimony seeing Campbell estranged from his band mates over what they said was his eagerness to to promote his solo album rather than the band’s work.
Reggae is of course Jamaica’s largest cultural export, and since its humble beginnings in the capital Kingston, it has grown to become a worldwide cultural and music expression. Over the last four years, Raggamuffin has enthralled over 50,000 fans across Australia. Campbell – one of the world’s most distinctive and recognizable voices – is the first of a series of international artists set to be announced to headline the event.
