If you’ve ever found yourself heavily regretting the fact that you were never able to see Pink Floyd’s early work performed live, then you might want to find your way over to London, where founding member Nick Mason will be performing some early cuts with a veritable supergroup as his backing band.
As Consequence Of Sound reports, the group’s original drummer Nick Mason is set to team up with composer Dom Bekem, Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp, The Blockheads’ Lee Hass, and former Pink Floyd bassist Guy Pratt for a series of performances next month.
Dubbed Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets, these performances are set to cover Pink Floyd’s early albums, including their debut, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, and the album from which the project takes its name.
“This is a unique opportunity to experience Pink Floyd’s celebrated and significant early body of work played live including songs from albums The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and A Saucerful Of Secrets,” a statement from the project read.
“Very few bands are as culturally important as Pink Floyd,” the statement continues. “They are one of the best selling music artists of all time and Nick Mason is a founder and the only constant member of the band performing on all of their albums as well as all of their live shows.”
“This will be Nick Mason’s first live musical outing since Pink Floyd played at the 2005 Live 8 concert in London.”
As both Louder and CoS note, Nick Mason did perform at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games and also performed alongside David Gilmour at a Roger Waters performance in 2011.
Regardless, with a lineup such as this taking charge and performing these tracks, we can only hope that Mason and co. decide to bring this project over to Australia sometime soon.
