The Chic featuring Nile Rodgers Australian Tour 2013 has been confirmed, though dates were kicking around courtesy of a leak from the guitarist/producer/songwriting legend himself the full dates, venues, and ticket details for the show from Nile Rodgers and his legendary band have now been revealed.
Headed to Australia to play Meredith Music Festival this December, playing the Supernatural Amphitheatre only a year after rocking The Sup’ at Golden Plains Sixxx, Nile Rodgers and Chic will be playing a series of national dates to bring their feel-good, fun-time hit parade to venues across the country.
With an enormous list of hits and achievements to their name, there can be little argument that Chic was, and is, disco’s greatest band; working in a heavily producer-dominated field, they were most definitely a band. By the time they appeared in the late ’70s, they bucked the trend by stripping disco’s sound down to its basic elements. Their funky, stylish grooves had an organic sense of interplay that was missing from many of their overproduced competitors.
Key to Chic’s sound was the scratchy, James Brown-style rhythm guitar of Nile Rodgers and those indelible, widely imitated (sometimes outright stolen) bass lines; as producers, they used keyboard and string embellishments economically, which kept the emphasis on rhythm.
As Rodgers himself told Tone Deaf in a recent interview discussing his legacy, his collaborations (and even Aussie politics!): “No matter what I’ve done or who it’s with, I just make hits.”
Chic’s distinctive approach not only resulted in some of the finest dance singles of their time, but also helped create a template for urban funk, dance-pop, and even hip-hop in the post-disco era. Not coincidentally, Nile wound up as one of the most successful producers of the ’80s. Chic has been nominated for inclusion in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame eight times — 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 & 2013.
These will be shows to be talked about for years to come, do not miss your chance to ‘Freak Out!’
