Earlier today, we reported on the alleged misconduct of NSW Police Force officials at a festival.
Lucy Moore, 19, claims to have been illegally strip searched when officers, “without reason”, claimed she was carrying drugs. We reached out to Moore for comment earlier today, after 12,000 people engaged with her story.
This afternoon, in a Tone Deaf exclusive, Moore has issued a warning to festival-goers.
Moore says, “I originally wrote this post to let friends and family know of what happened, and I’ve been so overwhelmed by the messages and support I have received since. I never expected to have this post blow up like it did.”
“It’s been a whirlwind experience for me and I am still trying to wrap my head around it. It’s going to be a long mental recovery before I feel safe around cops again, but with this sort of love surrounding me I know everything will be alright.”
Moore has expressed her gratitude towards the people who have supported her. She also wishes to get more attention around policing, and the rights that festival-goers have when interacting with them. “I want to thank everyone for sharing my story and getting the word out about a topic that really needs more attention.
I really encourage everyone to share their experiences as well, as strength comes in numbers! I feel stronger knowing I have people behind me and supporting me.”
Some advice for festival goers?
“I advise people to look up their rights and read about it as much as they possibly can, considering some police are really abusing their powers and going too far with it.”
She continues, “It is completely legal to take a support person with you if you are subject to a search… I would’ve done this if [I was] given the opportunity.
Moore has also confirmed that this isn’t the last time she’ll attend music events, and already has figured out her next one. “I will not let this experience hold me back from doing the things I love. I’m keen to see everyone at Touch Bass in Sydney!”
