Californian punk icons The Offspring have offered an update about their next album, noting that fans might even be seeing two records in the near future.

Recently, Tone Deaf sat down with The Offspring’s guitarist Noodles in anticipation of their upcoming Australian tour. When asked about future album plans, Noodles told us that the band have been toying with two records’ worth of songs.

“We don’t have any distribution at the moment, or any label to work with right now,” Noodles began. “We were trying to figure out what’s the best way to do that; ‘do we do it ourselves, do we work with somebody?’, just trying to figure all that out.”

“But we’ve got a record’s worth of songs ready to go, we’re actually looking at making two records, keeping us then going.”

Now, in a new interview with Junkee, Noodles has offered another update, explaining how they’ve been hitting the studio with prolific producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe).

“We’ve been spending a bit of time in the studio with Bob Rock, who worked on our last two albums as well,” Noodles explained. “He’s great, man — we get along with him really well. We’ve got a bunch of new songs that we’re preparing to go in and record right now.”

“I think there’s a record’s worth in there, but we’re thinking that maybe the songs are just a little too different,” he continued. “We know there’s a song or two on every record that comes out of left-field for us, but it’s more than just a couple this time.”

“Right now, we’re entertaining the idea of doing two records — one where we can put all of these, and another of straight-up Offspring songs.”

While The Offspring recently covered 311’s ‘Down’, and have been playing new song ‘It Won’t Get Better’ in concert, it’s not clear whether Australian fans will get more new tunes when they travel Down Under to play next week’s Good Things festival.
