US outfit, OM, are bringing their unique blend of spiritually resonant and essential drone to Australia for a national tour this May…

OM formed in 2003 from the rhythm section of the disbanded Stoner doom metal band, Sleep. With a line-up comprised of Al Cisneros on vocals and bass and Chris Hakius on drums, they released three albums plus singles and EPs on credible labels such as Holy Mountain, Sub Pop and Southern Lord.

Their fourth album, God Is Good (2009) saw Hakius replaced by Emil Amos (Grails, Lilacs and Champagne and Holy Sons) and they followed up the album with their fifth and most recent studio offering, Advaitic Songs in 2012, which also saw multi-instrumentalist Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe aka Lichens join the band full-time (previously of 90 Day Men and a vocal contributor to black metal band, Twilight).

Where God Is Good was the first step in a more ornate and sophisticated direction for OM, Advaitic Songs decimated whatever drone-doom genre that had been hoisted at the band in years past by way of sheer imagination, expansive quality, and the meticulously detailed arrangements. For a band that has continually followed its own course and stood alone in its sound and approach, Advaitic Songs is the band’s most focused, progressive record to date.
