On tis day in 2008, music magazine Total Guitar voted the Céline Dion cover version of AC/DC’s ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ as the worst cover song of all time.
The cover, performed alongside Anastacia for the 2002 VH1 Divas Las Vegas concert featured guest vocals by Anastacia, and was criticised for being a pretty poor reimagining of the original. The track was in ‘fine’ company, beating out All Saints’ cover of Run-DMC and Aerosmith’s ‘Walk This Way’, Westlife’s cover of Extreme’s ‘More Than Words’, and Will Young’s cover of The Door’s ‘Light My Fire’.
However, Total Guitar did manage to pay tribute to the other end of the spectrum as well, noting that Jimi Hendrix’s take on Bob Dylan’s ‘All Along The Watchtower’ was a highlight, as was The Beatles’ cover of ‘Twist And Shout’, Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Live And Let Die’, and Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged version of David Bowie’s ‘The Man Who Sold The World’.
