Teamed up together, Global Citizen and Lady Gaga aired their One World: Together At Home series, and it has raised an insane $128 million for COVID-19 relief efforts.
Featuring a multitude of artists and celebrities, the One World: Together At Home series broadcasted performances from Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Billy Eilish, The Rolling Stones, and so many more, including appearances from Stephen Colbert, Michelle Obama, and Jimmy Kimmel.
In partnership with Global Citizen, Lady Gaga set for the series to raise money for the ones impacted by COVID-19 in all sectors, and in total it has raised over $128 million.
So far, $55.1 million of the funds that were raised have gone to benefit the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO, who are “leading and coordinating the global effort with a range of partners, supporting countries to prevent, detect, and respond to the pandemic.”
The remaining $72.8 million is being received by local and regional first responders on the front line, and the challenges they face in the wake of COVID-19. “Food banks are providing meals to millions of families whose children are usually fed at school, shelters and community organisations are ensuring housing is safe and secure, and financial institutions are offering loans and assistance to those finding themselves without work.”
Even though so much money has been raised so far, Global Citizen notes that they don’t intend to stop here, as the battle continues.
“While the One World: Together At Home special broadcast represented a moment of global unity and an opportunity to support the global response through the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund or regional and local responders, there is more to be done,” the organisation responded.
