On Thursday, June 18th, Paul McCartney will celebrate his 78th birthday. The legendary rocker has shared a birthday wish with fans, asking them to give up meat consumption.
McCartney has been a vocal animal rights activist and staunch vegetarian for 45 years. Influenced by his late wife Linda, an early advocate for the vegetarian lifestyle and the namesake behind the best god damn vegan sausage rolls on the market.
In a post published on PETA’s website, McCartney asks fans to “Watch my PETA video and ditch meat.” The film, Glass Walls, was originally published by the animal activism site 10 years ago. It offers a harrowing insight into the abuse of animals on their way to slaughter. The film is narrated by McCartney and has been viewed over 20 million times.
“All I’ve ever wanted for my birthday is peace on Earth—including for the animals,” McCartney wrote. “That’s why this year I’m urging fans to watch a video I hosted for PETA titled ‘Glass Walls’. We called it that because if slaughterhouses had glass walls, who would want to eat meat?”
McCartney is encouraging fans to absorb the documentary and consider a vegetarian lifestyle.
Earlier this month, McCartney voiced his solidarity and support of the Black Lives Matter movement that was spurred by the murder of unarmed black man George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officer.
“I feel sick and angry that here we are almost 60 years later and the world is in shock at the horrific scenes of the senseless murder of George Floyd at the hands of police racism, along with countless others that came before,” he wrote.

“All of us here support and stand alongside all those who are protesting and raising their voices at this time. I want justice for George Floyd’s family, I want justice for all those who have died and suffered. Saying nothing is not an option.”
