Record Store Day 2019 is set to be in safe hands, with grunge icons Pearl Jam tapped as this year’s ambassadors for the day.

Each and every April, millions of music-lovers from around the world to celebrate one of the most recent musical holidays; Record Store Day.

Kicking off back in 2008, the event has since gone global, with fans of records and music saving up throughout the year to ensure they’ve got the cash to purchase those cool, limited-edition releases from their favourite bands.

However, each and every year, one lucky artist is chosen to act as the official ambassador for the event. While last year saw Run The Jewels take the helm, we’ve also seen the likes of St. Vincent, Metallica, Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne, and Jack White serve as the official ambassadors.

Now, grunge icons Pearl Jam are set to serve in the role for 2019.

Announced earlier today, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready released a statement stating the band are “honoured” to be given such an important role.

“Pearl Jam is honoured to be Record Store Day’s Ambassador for 2019,” McCready explained. “Independent record stores are hugely important to me, and have been ever since I was 12 years-old.”

“Before I even really knew what they were—there was a certain feeling of ‘this is a dream come true,’ and it’s a wonderland and there’s so much to learn in here… and it’s still that way.”

While this year’s list of Record Store Day releases are expected to be unveiled sometime next month, it’s not clear if Pearl Jam will have any special items coming out on the day.

While the band are apparently hard at work on a new record, they revealed at the end of 2018 that their iconic Ten Club singles series was coming to an end after 28 years, putting a stop to almost three decades of annual 7″ singles making their way to fans.
