Three years on from the release of his last album, perennial ARIA Award-nominee Pete Murray has returned with ‘Found My Place’, the first taste of a big year to come.
Co-written with Gavin Slate in Nashville and recorded with Canadian-born, Byron Bay icon Garrett Kato, the track sees Murray taking sonic inspiration from artists as iconic and varied as JJ Cale and Frank Ocean, offering up a charming creation that is as warm and welcoming as it is timely.
“Found my place is about passing on the wisdom of life to someone you love,” Murray explains. “If you trust your own instinct and stay true to yourself, then life will be fine. It was actually inspired by my own journey in life that I’m passing on to my kids now.”
Released alongside a music video filmed and edited by fellow Byron Bay locals Mos & Co, the clip follows Murray and his young family basking in a sunset on the beach, offering up a heartfelt glimpse into what he holds so dear.
“This was a last minute decision to get my wife Mira and daughter Saachi in for the shoot,” he adds. “I’m very protective of my family and keep my family life very private.
“We thought of just using Mira and Saachi as background silhouette shots but when we we filmed on the day, Saachi came in to shot out of nowhere and did this cute little dance. Once we saw this we knew it had to be in the final edit. The song is about giving wisdom to your kids, so this was perfect in the end.”
‘Found My Place’ is the first taste of the big year of music that Pete Murray has in store this year, with a handful of singles, and two new EPs set for release across the next 12 months.

Despite his continued success (including three successive records topping the ARIA chart), Murray notes that he’s not sharing his music for the sake of potential recognition, but rather to please his fans and serve his own desire to keep creating his beloved tunes.
“I hold the record at the ARIAs for the most nominations never to win,” he jokes. “17 nominations with 0 wins.
“This effectively makes me the biggest loser in the history of the ARIAs! Funnily enough it’s actually something I’m really proud [of].”
Pete Murray’s ‘Found My Place’ is officially out today via Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
