Peter Frampton has announced the release of a brand new covers album, just months after revealing his retirement from touring.

Back in February, the world was shocked to learn that Peter Frampton looked set to close the book on live touring, following the diagnosis of a degenerative muscle disease.

“Right now, it’s progressing but I’m still at the top of my game,” Frampton told Rolling Stone. “We decided to do a farewell tour now since I don’t want to go out and not be able to play well.”

“If I’m going to do a farewell tour, I want to play good. I want to rock it. I know that this tour, I will be able to do everything I did last year and the year before. That’s the most important thing to me.”

“I want to go out screaming as opposed to, ‘He can’t play anymore.’”

However, while live shows will soon be a thing of the past, Peter Frampton revealed that he still had three albums of material in the works. Now, we’re set to receive one of these new records in a matter of weeks.

As Rolling Stone reports, Frampton is set to release a new covers album, titled All Blues, on June 7th.

Co-produced by Chuck Ainlay, the record is credited to the Peter Frampton Band, and features the likes of guitarist Adam Lester, keyboardist-guitarist Rob Arthur, and drummer Dan Wojciechowski.

“I have always loved to play the blues,” Frampton explained of his new album. “When we formed Humble Pie, the first material we played together was just that.”

“For the last two summers I had been playing a handful of blues numbers every night on stage with Steve Miller Band. I enjoyed this immensely and it gave me the idea of doing an All Blues album live in the studio with my band.”

“With this recording, we pay tribute to all the original artists who invented this incredible music,” he concluded. “I hope you can hear and feel our enjoyment.”

While there’s no word yet as to whether or not Peter Frampton’s farewell tour will feature a stop over in Australia, we can at least take solace in knowing we’ve still got new music on the way.
