Having come out of their half-decade hibernation, Augie March have now dropped a second taste of their first new album in five years, along with the full tracklist and its quasi-patriotic artwork.
Havens Dumb is the name of Augie March’s follow-up to 2008’s Watch Me Disappear and following on from virgin taste ‘After The Crack Up’, now comes ‘Definitive History’, a lush six-minute track that steers singer-songwriter Glenn Richards’ perceptive eye towards a state of the nation address buttressed of course in his typically poetic lyricism.
Musically, ‘Definitive History’ floats along on haunting piano and spooky guitars cooing somehwere in the distance, shifting around mercurial chord changes towards lush vocal harmonies and a full orchestrated backing in its final movements.
Havens Dumb will be released 3rd October and feature 14 songs (culled from “thirty-odd tracks”) as the band detail on their re-booted website.
“It contains elements of each release that has gone before and will be cherished by those who have kept faith with this rare outfit,” write Augie March of the record, which was mixed by “engineer Illuminati” Paul McKercher, whose ARIA-winning work can be heard on Augie March’s first three records: Sunset Studies, Strange Bird and Moo, You Bloody Choir.

The news arrives as Augie March announce their first headline gigs since first going “on hiatus” in 2009, announcing two hometown shows in Melbourne at Brunswick’s Howler before confirming a third following overwhelming demand.
