Closure In Moscow have come a long way since the release of First Temple back in 2009. While five years is a long time for fans to twiddle their thumbs, rest assured that their latest offering was well worth the wait.

The sounds of nature will calmly lull the listener into a false safe haven on ‘The Fool’ before pummeling them into obscurity. Segueing into the mammoth eight-minute title track, the group maintains their fine form. Christopher De Cinque’s voice is as soaring as ever, and combined with Zennelli’s more throaty vocals, create a very effective contrast.

Ditching their post-hardcore roots and pushing a more freewheeling soul sound, the one-two punch of ‘Seeds Of Gold’ and ‘That Brahmatron Song’ both contain ridiculously infectious choruses that are a real challenge to not sing along to, whereas the anthemic ‘The Church Of The Technochrist’ and ‘Neoprene Byzantine’ inhibit typical structure – the latter of which carrying some definite Mars Volta influences.

Despite this elation, one of the album’s highlights is actually the sombre ‘Beckon Fire’ – a more post-rock inspired track that makes use of ethereal instrumentals and spacey vocals.

If there’s one gripe to the record, it’s that the inscrutable last song feels slightly tacked on. Asian-pop played over the sounds of retro videogames is a fun addition, but ‘Happy Days’ would make a more wholesome closer, tremendously gratifying and bringing the record full-circle.

Housing some of their best material to date, Pink Lemonade is an absolute riot of an album – one that evokes a tremendous sense of euphoria within the listener. Head nodding, toe tapping, and breaking out into dance may apply.
