Post Malone will donate 40,000 face masks to frontline medical workers fighting coronavirus. The rapper spearheaded the initiative through his recently relaunched lifestyle brand, Shaboink.

Shaboink will donate 40,000 masks to charitable organisation Direct Aid, who will pass the masks on to frontline medical workers.

Post Malone also announced yesterday that Shaboink will begin selling ‘clean kits’ via their website. The kits, which range in price from $50-$100, contain essential supplies, including hand sanitiser, vitamin C tablets, disposable gloves, wipes, face masks and soap sheets.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Post revealed that he initially intended to relaunch Shaboink as a full-service lifestyle brand. However, the coronavirus pandemic prompted him to change his plans.

“When faced with COVID-19, I knew it was important to pivot to products that could help us stay clean now, so we can get back to shaboink’ing later,” the rapper said.

“I just wanted to make something that’s fun, and Shaboink is about having fun at all times…we’re all in a pretty shitty time right now but we’ll get through it; let’s keep clean and kick this thing’s ass.”

Post Malone made news in late April, following his set of Nirvana covers performed live on YouTube. A longtime fan of the iconic grunge outfit, Post played 75 minutes of Nirvana covers alongside Blink-182’s Travis Barker.

The rapper performed a stack of the band’s best-loved tracks, including ‘Heart-Shaped Box’, ‘Come As You Are’ and ‘Lithium’. ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ was a notable omission from the set.

Post’s set impressed Dave Grohl, who said the covers “sounded great”.

“I don’t get to see other people do Nirvana songs often, and he seemed perfectly comfortable with it, and it sounded great,” Grohl opined.

“Even the die-hard Nirvana people that I know were, like, ‘dude, he’s kind of killing it right now.’”
