Adelaide’s Dead Roo have dished up one of the finest songs of 2020, unleashing their new single ‘Nick Of Time’ ahead of its official release on Friday.
For the last few years, the South Australian music scene has considered itself all the more stronger due in part to the presence of the exceptional quartet that is Dead Roo.
Utilising the inimitable songwriting talents of Jess Johns and Jason Katsaras, the group have managed to go from strength to strength in just a few short years, gaining support slots for the likes of Bad//Dreems, West Thebarton, and even Pete Murray on the Superloop 500 main stage back in February.
Back in November, the group managed to add another notch to their belts by being presented with the prestigious APRA AMCOS Emily Burrows Award at the South Australian Music Awards. An undeniable honour that firmly complemented a few years worth of stunning releases, 2020 is well on track to be a stellar year for the group.
Although touring is currently off the cards due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Dead Roo have now shared ‘Nick Of Time’, their latest track which precedes the release of an upcoming EP this year.
Kicking off with tender plucked guitar before it diverges into a hazy indie-rock number, complete with slick guitarwork, a memorable chorus, and relatable lyrics which seem to capture the collective mood during the current time.
Getting a first-run on triple j’s Home And Hosed program on Tuesday night, ‘Nick Of Time’ is set to appear on an upcoming split single from Adelaide’s Swirl Records. While there’s no word yet as to which artist will feature on the flipside, the acts which have been associated with Swirl in the past tells us that it’s on track to be another incredible release.
Dead Roo’s ‘Nick Of Time’ is officially released on Friday, June 12th, but if you’re liking the sound of what you’re hearing, you can get in on the ground floor by giving it a sneak peek below.
