Melbourne’s quirky soul-funk outfit Vaudeville Smash have just dropped their newest track, the smooth and soulful ‘Laura’.

Coming as the first taste of the group’s upcoming sophomore album The Gift, the quintet have delivered a musical ode to scorned lovers, backed by a discoi-inspired film clip.

The group pay homage to a diverse range of musical artists such as Cameo and Earth, Wind & Fire, while some may find the band drawing influence from the famously soulful falsetto of Michael McDonald.

Produced by John Castle (Vance Joy, Megan Washington), ‘Laura’ is a perfect encapsulation of the 80s funk/boogie scene, flawlessly incorporating instruments such as flute, synth, slap bass, horns, and an unconventional song structure.

Vaudeville Smash will be hitting the road later this month to promote The Gift, which is due to be released August 26th. Known for being exuberant affairs, these upcoming shows are definitely not to be missed.
