It’s been a little while since we welcomed Monsoon Moon onto the scene, but now, the Perth project is back with a new single, the exuberant ‘Golden Goose’.
Back in 2019, the music world said hello to its newest member, with Shaun Pickett of Command Q releasing his debut single under the Monsoon Moon name.
A stellar track, the Monsoon Moon ride didn’t stop there, with more released being unleashed over the coming months. Now, with a self-titled EP set to grace us with its presence on April 17th, we’re lucky to be bringing you its majestic new single, ‘Golden Goose’.
Recorded Digital Bath Studios in Perth, Monsoon Moon’s tracks are a labour of love, with all of the production, mixing, and mastering duties being undertaken by Pickett himself, and serving as a testament to his masterful (and frankly, enviable) skill.
“‘Golden Goose’ follows a classic story, I met a girl who seemed amazing,” Monsoon Moon says of the track’s inspiration. “A month into dating I realise she’s low key insane, so I attempt to part ways with her and you guessed it, a demon is unleashed.
“When I first jammed this out on the piano, I was improvising lyrics and somehow the words ‘Golden Goose’ stuck with me and I based all the metaphors around the goose that lays gold eggs from Jack and the Bean Stalk.
“I’ve always wanted my debut EP to have a ‘live band’ influence even though its mostly electronic, and I think ‘Golden Goose’ is the closest I got.”

Officially releasing on Friday, April 10th (chuck ‘Golden Goose’ on to truly make it a great Friday), the single comes one week before the release of the Monsoon Moon EP, and arrives at a time of great upheaval for the Aussie music scene.
Despite this, Monsoon Moon remains confident that his new tunes are set to be embraced by his legions of fans, despite an inability to tour, or bring the songs to the people.
“[It’s] been a really fun ride thus far,” he explains. “We’re all here trying to bring creative ideas to the table to give the audience something new with each release. With COVID-19 swooping in, we’ve had to cancel our plans to tour. It’s back to the basics; music and music alone.”
