It’s only been a few months since his last track was unleashed, but now Aussie indie gem Tim Wheatley has returned with another classic tune, sharing the personal ‘Lying Low’.

For a few years now, lovers of Aussie music have been loving the tunes shared out by the exceptional alt-folk troubadour Tim Wheatley. Having shared albums such as Cast Of Yesterday in 2015, and Pillar To Post in 2017, the acclaimed muso has managed to curate quite a following, with each and every fan eagerly awaiting his next move.

Earlier this year, Wheatley returned with his newest single, ‘Sex With Strangers’, allowing fans to get a taste of the latest chapter in his musical career. Now, he’s at it again, offering up his latest track, the personal ‘Lying Low’.

Produced and engineered by former bandmate Michael Badger (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, You Am I, Amyl & The Sniffers) in Melbourne and mixed by ARIA Award-winning Steven Schram (Paul Kelly, San Cisco), ‘Lying Low’ sees Wheatley offering up an introspective tale of darkness that showcases the musical brilliance his surname suggests.

“It was the first song I wrote after moving from Los Angeles to London,” Wheatley says of the new single. “The adjustment from sunny California to the cobblestone streets of East London was near impossible for me.

“I wrote this song feeling more isolated than ever, in a new city, away from family and friends, and without the ability to perform live.

“I stopped talking about how hard I was finding it, because I was drowning in other people’s well-intended but cookie cutter advice. I was going stir crazy in my own company all day and night,” he adds. “It was a true test for my mental health, I was suffering and switching up a few different sides of my personality trying to find the one that could best get me through each situation.

“It was exhausting ‘getting out there’ and making new friends, for some reason during this period I felt I needed to keep to myself to get to the other side.”

A fitting track for the strange times we find ourselves in in, Wheatley notes that while ‘Lying Low’ wasn’t written with the global pandemic in mind, it has certainly managed to take on some new meaning in the current climate.

“In more ‘normal’ release circumstances, this song – that is now a year old – would be a memory, or about a circumstance that has since passed,” Wheatley explains. “But this time, ‘Lying Low’ is somehow becoming more relevant by the day. Either that or I’m stuck on a carousel.”

Tim Wheatley’s ‘Lying Low’ is officially released on Friday, June 12th, but you can give it an early listen below.
