Improvisational beat making trio Vulture St Tape Gang are today dropping their brand new hour-long beat tape Mick’s Nuts.
This the third instalment of their series of beat-tapes named after West End landmarks in Brisbane, (the suburb in which the group presides and take their name from) Mick’s Nuts sees the collective continue their reign as one of this country’s most fascinating beat-making crews.
Vulture St Tape Gang is comprised of Myka Wallace on drums and production, Michael Medlycott, a classically trained pianist on synthesizers and Laneous on vocals and raps. Laneous was actually an early inspiration for Hiatus Kaiyote and the illustrator behind their album covers and merchandise.
There are 57 ‘beats’ on the mix-tape made up from hours of free form improvisation between the three members. This tape takes its name and design from the overflowing hole-in-the-wall Mick’s Nuts, which has sat on the corner of Hargrave Rd long before the conception of the well-branded health food store.
