Just days after the third anniversary of Prince’s passing, his estate has announced the release of a new album of tunes, fittingly-titled Originals.

It’s no secret that throughout his life, the prolific Prince wrote a number of songs that were given to famed musicians.

Why, The Bangles’ ‘Manic Monday’ was originally written for Apollonia 6 in 1984, while ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ became a hit for Sinéad O’Connor, five years after it was written for The Family’s eponymous debut.

Now, following the release of 2018’s Piano And A Microphone 1983, Prince’s estate are set to release the second posthumous album from Prince, this time consisting of original demo versions of the tracks given to other artists.

The 15-track release is set to debut on Tidal on June 7th, with physical copies, and wider streaming access coming two weeks later on June 21st.

As NPR notes, 14 of these original tracks have never been released before, making this a huge win for fans of the late music icon.

Similarly, this October will also see Prince’s estate release The Beautiful Ones, the long-awaited memoir that the artist had been working on prior to his untimely passing.

As The Associated Press notes, this unfinished manuscript will be complemented with the addition of “rare photos, scrapbooks and lyrics”, and will feature an introduction by Dan Piepenbring, who had been working on the project with the late artist.

In related news, Prince’s half-sister Sharon Nelson has accused Comerica Bank & Trust (the administrators of the musician’s estate) of mismanagement, noting that if this trend continues, “Prince’s estate will be bankrupt by the end of the year.”

“Prince is not resting in peace while this is going on,” Nelson explained to Billboard recently. “He’s very upset what these people have done to his estate. It’s really sad.”
