Regarded as one of the biggest events on the Melbourne hip hop calendar, Raise The Roof is once again delivering an Aussie showcase of both high calibre established acts and promising young artists.

We’re thrilled to announce that the hugely successful Urthboy will be headlining this sixth chapter of Raise The Roof. His first solo album Distant Sense of Random Menace was released in 2004, but it was 2007s The Signal that really kicked things up a notch.

The first single ‘We Get Around’ cracked the top 25 in triple j’s Hottest 100 while ‘The Signal’ was hailed as “a classic” by Rolling Stone. It received two AIR Award nominations, a J Award nomination (Triple J’s Album of the Year award), and it was shortlisted in the prestigious Australian Music Prize (Best Album 2007). His most recent album Smokey’s Haunt was released late last year and achieved a #14 debut position on the ARIA charts.

In addition to solo material, Urthboy is one of the main songwriters and a founding member of The Herd, whose six albums have seen them build a huge fanbase in Australia. They’ve sold out national tours, including major metropolitan theatres through to regional venues whilst accepting invitations to every major festival in the country. During this time they’ve won two AIR Awards, a top ten ARIA chart album, ARIA award nomination (Best Urban 2008) and a J Award.

Resin Dogs are a loose collective, a cut and paste sample band who use live drums, live bass, and elements of hip hop via turntables and samplers to create all forms of ritual dance sounds. They were formed in 1996, releasing their debut EP, Grinnin’, on their own label, Hydrofunk, in 1997.

This was followed by subsequent EPs, Volcanic Lab (1998)and Daily Troubles (2000), with the track, “Say Yeah”, receiving airplay on Triple J making its way up the Australian Independent Records (AIR) charts, before they release their first full length album, Grand Theft Audio, later that same year. Now, with four albums under their belts they are considered to be one of Australia’s most well-established dynamic and energetic hip hop groups.

From the moment Briggs dropped his self-released debut EP, the brilliant and groundbreaking Homemade Bombs (2009), it was obvious to everyone that this marked the arrival of a powerful and unique voice on the scene. His indigenous roots and his rural upbringing in the small country town of Shepparton gave him a perspective like no one else. Powered by a rapid-fire, melodic, direct approach, Briggs was as funny as he was deep.

It was this rare combination of characteristics that lead to him being embraced by some of the wiser and more experienced heads in the local scene. He released his debut album The Blacklist in 2010 and has earned support slots for international artists including Ice Cube, KRS-One, Necro, Ghostface Killah, Dilated Peoples, M.O.P. and Pharoahe Monch.
