Melbourne electronic four-piece Rat & Co have released ‘Spring I’, the first offering of their upcoming two-track, aptly titled Spring I & II, which is thematically linked to the eponymous season.

‘Spring I’ is downtrodden and dark, yet its bubbly sampling cleaves through its initial edginess, that leaves the listener with a feeling that is both delicate and foreboding. Scratchy, rough cut samples and a build up of keys and flute sounds give the track a sense of progression and sincere weightlessness to it.

While Spring I & II is conceptually about yearning for that transition from the dark cold winter to the first few days spring, ‘Spring I’ carves out its own personal sound and does so in an effectively minimalistic way that is genuinely beautiful in its simplicity. Rat & Co. will be performing as part of Melbourne Music Week.
