It’s no coincidence that the 30 year anniversary of the day NASA’s Voyager 1 space probe took a picture of Earth was the same day Luboku released his new EP.

The Australian musician, producer and multi-instrumentalist might be a sucker for sentimentality. Officially released on Valentine’s Day, Pale Blue Dot / Lift Off and its feature single, ‘Lift Off’ may an electronic dreamscape of textured synths, but it’s more than that too.

Given its inspiration from NASA’s Voyager 1 (the first track even samples the voice of astrophysicist and astronomer Carl Sagan) the EP allowed Luboku to reflect on humanity’s fragility.

“When you look at that image of earth as a tiny speck of dust, you can’t help but put into perspective our collective experience,” he says. “It eliminates these arbitrary borders we’ve created and paints earth as nothing more than what it is – our planet, our home.

“Our hopes and dreams, our loved ones and memories, failures and fuck ups as an individual and species are presented on nothing more than a tiny, pale blue dot surrounded by the enormity of the universe.”

The EP in itself is just a fragment of what’s to come from the Melburnian this year, but it’s also a message, asking fans to consider our own pale blue dot, our Earth and our place in it.
