Get ready to relive the golden days of Aussie alternative music, with a documentary about the landmark programme Recovery set to air next month.
If you grew up in the ’90s, then Recovery was practically required viewing for any Aussie music fan. Hosted by the iconic Dylan Lewis, the show ran from 1996 until 2000, and showcased some of the greatest local and international bands of the era, often featuring them the day after performing headline shows around the country.
Featuring interviews, live performances, and more references to Monkey than usually expected, the show was a cultural landmark for Aussie music fans, and served as essential viewing for those seedy Saturday mornings.
While we’ve seen repeated calls for Recovery to make a comeback, we have however received a 20th anniversary box set, a reimagining thanks to Bad//Dreems, and the recent premiere of Dylan and Jane’s new show, Recovered, however, we’re about to get a blast from the past with a new documentary set to air next month.
Titled Recovery: The Music And The Mayhem, the doco is set to grace your screen as part of the ABC’s Ausmusic Month celebrations, and will see Dylan Lewis taking us on a trip back in time, opening up the vaults to revisit the show’s best performances, interviews, and moments.
Featuring Jane Gazzo, Leigh Whannell, and The Enforcer, we’ll also get insight from some of the musicians who were there to experience Recovery in its heyday, including Bernard Fanning, Tim Rogers, and Killing Heidi, as well as members of Silverchair, Spiderbait, Regurgitator, Something For Kate, Magic Dirt, Jebediah, The Living End, The Superjesus, and many more.
Check out a classic appearance from Green Day on Recovery:
“Working on Recovery back in the day was rad. It was crazy, loose and so fun,” explained Dylan. “Putting together this rockumentary has been nostalgic bliss for me and I can’t wait for old fans and new ones to experience it.”
