Following on from the news that they have a new album in the can and a national tour to launch it, funk-punk-popsters Regugitator are taking their high energy live show to a whole new audience: children.
Now entering its second year, Dress Up Attack! is a Marrickville-based event aimed at providing a high quality music festival experience to the younger music fan, catering to infants, kids, and their parents in a family-friendly environment.
So how do Regurgitator, a band whose forthcoming album is titled Dirty Pop Fantasy, going to fit in with the child-friendly atmosphere given their back catalogue is peppered with ‘cheeky’ language, such as Unit‘s ‘I Will Lick Your Asshole’ or fan favourite ‘I Sucked A Lot Of Cock To Get Where I Am’.
Ever the prankster, frontman Quan Yeomans warns parents that Regurgitator “will not be bowing to any lame censorship restrictions for the sake of ‘protecting’ the unsullied innocents,” so the guitarist tells parents to expect “unadulterated hits” such as ‘I Sucked A Lollipop To Get Where I Am.’
That’s right folks, the members of Regurgitator are parents too and more than happy to adapt their lyrics for the band’s first-ever G-Rated live set. The fizzing synth hooks and silly charm of the Brisbane band’s music is actually perfectly suited for kids, the likes of ‘Polyester Girl’, ‘Black Bugs’ and ‘Fat Cop’ are likely to go down a treat. Plus, given the band’s penchant for outrageous outfits, they’re likely to get right in the spirit of the festival’s open invitation to dress up. Quan Yeomans tells parents to expect “unadulterated hits” such as ‘I Sucked A Lollipop To Get Where I Am’.
Joining the ‘Gurg on the bill will be Justine Clarke, returning to Sydney for her first performance of 2013. Already possessing a large discography of original tunes aimed at preschoolers, Clarke will be headlining Dress Up Attack! Festival 2013, alongside The Sticker Club (featuring Nic Dalton & Alison Galloway),
Lah Lah’s Big Live Band, DJ Goldfoot’s Go-Go Tent, and more acts to be announced.
Following on from last year’s sell-out debut, Dress Up Attack! adds a whole host of fun for the kids besides the musical drawcards. There’ll be roaming installations and performances, dance, music & creative reuse workshops, plenty of food and picnic areas, as well as the launch of the Dress Up Attack! Grand Parade.
“You can see and hear live music that you actually want to hear, catch up with friends and meet new people,” enthuses Lisa Barbagallo, mother of three and the music industry brainchild behind Dress Up Attack!; conceived after spending a riotous time with her 3-year-old at Coachella in 2006 while still jeetlagged and pregnant. “It dawned on me that there is not a lot of quality entertainment that both parents and kids can enjoy together.”
Dress Up Attack! perfectly fills that void in the market; “Your kids are having a great time and you’re creating some really special moments together,” she continues. “The kids dress up, the parents hang out, everyone is having fun.”
