Triple J House Party is a record for the ‘partay-ers’ out there, not the ‘partiers’- this album is much too cool for them, in saying that this album can cater for any situation.

Mixed by the station’s own House Party host, Nina Las Vegas, there is such a huge amount of songs and different genres that come together to create a very diverse compilation of tracks.

With an eclectic mix of artists ranging from indie rockers Django Django, Aussie rap stalwarts Hilltop Hoods and the incomparable Missy Elliot – there’s something for everyone.

The first CD comprises mainly of pumping house and electronic songs with Parachute Youth’s hit “Can’t Get Better Than This” kicking it all off in huge fashion.

While Parachute Youth might think it can’t get better than them, it really does – The Chemical Brothers’ “Do It Again” and Afrojack and Steve Aoki’s massive anthem “No Beef” both feature before the first mix hits the halfway point.

While it’s hard to put into words, for those who listen to Nina Las Vegas’ program (and have heard her mixes), you can tell the first CD has her distinct touch, with her style of DJ-ing really coming to the fore.

The second mix contains the songs from the genre the House Party really loves: hip hop.

Whether it be Aussie boys Hilltop Hoods and 360, or American natives A$AP Rocky and Dead Prez; the mix has ‘hip hop diehard’ written all over it.

There’s some indie tunes chucked in for good measure with Django Django (again) and The Rapture featuring, but even then, their appearances have a hip-hop sensibility about them that meshes well with those kind of rhythmic beats.

While the tracks don’t flow as well between one another as the first CD, the tracklist is much more varied and enjoyable.

LCD Soundsystem’s party-infused track “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House” closes the entire mix and while it may not be the case in real life, with this 2CD mix you can pretend Nina Las Vegas is playing at your house, or in your car, church or synagogue – wherever the situation calls for a broad range of tunes.
