When you think of Ryan Gosling, romantic ideal for millions of women around the world, do you imagine the wah-driven funk of sex-obsessed Californian Red Hot Chili Peppers? You don’t? Well, that’s all about to change, with the news that RHCP and Ryan Gosling will share the screen in Terrence Malick’s forthcoming feature film, Song to Song.
Gosling stars alongside Natalie Portman, Rooney Mara and Michael Fassbender (he is a little more RHCP, to be honest) in the film, which is a musically-themed flick that was shot at Austin City Limits in 2012. The IndieWire blurb reads: “In this modern love story set against the Austin, Texas music scene, two entangled couples — struggling songwriters Faye (Mara) and BV (Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Fassbender) and the waitress whom he ensnares (Portman) — chase success through a rock ‘n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.”
So, no, you won’t be seeing Flea emote, unless it’s with a bass slung down around his kneecaps, and the Chilis are but one band included in the film, which will also feature Florence and the Machine, Patti Smith, and Iggy Pop.
Song to Song will be out in the US this March – no word on an Aussie release date yet.
