Ruby Fields has just knocked another one out of the park, dropping her brand new single ‘Dinosaurs’ this morning.
Premiering on triple j last night, ‘Dinosaur’ shows Ruby Fields at her confessional best, delivering a deeply personal, emotional, yet uplifting banger that has all the qualities of an instant classic.
“‘Dinosaurs’ is a song I’ve been itching to write to bring up some super big insecurities of mine,” Ruby explained of the track. “I still wanted it to have the Australiana flair but also showcase a bit more emotion – and obviously I couldn’t go a whole song without some drums.”
“It’s about introducing yourself to fear as a kid. Before we were afraid of simple and complex things and when you still thought of a T. Rex as a toy instead of a vicious carnivore, ya know?”
‘Dinosaurs’ comes as we near the end of what has been a huge year for Ruby Fields. Following the release of huge singles ‘I Want’, ‘P Plates’, and ‘Ritalin’, this stunning muso released her debut EP, Your Dad’s Opinion For Dinner, earlier this year, and has been playing shows all over the place.
Currently hard at work on her upcoming sophomore EP, Ruby Fields is also out on the road with Ball Park Music and San Cisco, serving as the opener for what is one of the mightiest lineups in Aussie music at the moment.
While we’re keen as a bean to hear more of Ruby Field’s upcoming EP, it looks like we’ll probably be leaving ‘Dinosaurs’ on repeat for a while.

Ruby Fields – ‘Dinosaurs’ lyrics
I’m scared of huntsmans even though they’re harmless
I don’t like their numerous legs and find their eyes quite charmless
I’m scared of falling not the jump, just the landing a parachute
is fine long as I still end up standing
and I always think of when I was little and all of the things I chose to love instead
I used to love dinosaurs when I was a kid I wasn’t afraid I was brave and courageous with everything I did
I’m scared of the fact I’ve been to more funerals in my life than weddings I’ve lost some close mates of mine
I’m scared of surfing Held underwater choking am I trying to impress you is it working acting blokey
and I always think of when I was little and all of the things I chose to love instead
I used to love dinosaurs when I was a kid I wasn’t afraid I was brave and courageous with everything I did
I used to love dinosaurs when I was a kid I wasn’t afraid I was brave and courageous with everything I did
and I feel like a loser I’ve forgotten how to imagine and pretend so I’ll just watch Jurassic
park for the 50th time avoiding plans I made with my own friends
