Rufus Wainwright is gearing up to unleash his long-awaited album Unfollow The Rules next month, sharing his latest single, ‘Peaceful Afternoon’, recently.
For fans of Rufus Wainwright, the last few years haven’t exactly been full of the music they fell in love with all those years ago. In fact, while Wainwright has been busy crafting the likes of 2015’s operatic Prima Donna and 2018’s collection fo Shakespearean sonnets Take All My Loves, it’s been eight years since fans received a record of original material.
Thankfully though, this long time between drinks seemed to be coming to an end last year, when Wainwright shared the gorgeous ‘Trouble In Paradise‘, indicating he was in fact back on the horse and releasing more of his classic works.
Now, with his new album Unfollow The Rules set to be released on April 24th, the musical icon has now shared his latest single, the wonderful ‘Peaceful Afternoon’.
A folky, calming number provided during a time of uncertainty, Wainwright dedicated the song to his husband Jorn as “a thank you for putting up with me.
“It is now a requirement on every album that there is a song for my husband and another for my daughter,” he added.
A true return to the style that made him a household name, both ‘Peaceful Afternoon’ and Unfollow The Rules are on track to be considered some of Wainwright’s best work to date, with the 13 tracks serving as lush, theatrical and epic pop songs which are broken down into three Acts inspired by middle age, married life, family, friends, loss and more.

“What I would like this album to symbolise is a coming together of all the aspects of my life which have made me a seasoned artist,” Wainwright said in a statement.
“My aim is to emulate the greats of yore whose second acts produced their finest work – Leonard Cohen when he made The Future, when Sinatra became Sinatra in his 40s, when Paul Simon put out Graceland.
“Pop music isn’t always about your waistline. Many songwriters improve with age. I’m flying the flag for staying alive!”
