Artist Peter Blake’s classic album cover of The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band has been recreated as part of a fund-raising drive to complete an extension to the Holburne Museum in Bath in the UK. The original, which featured the Fab Four along with historical figures such as Karl Marx, Mahatma Ghandi and musicians such as Elvis and Bob Dylan, was recreated using a cast of homeless people, artists, school kids and local politicians and rugby players. Blake – who once lived in Bath and still keeps a studio in the town – returned to recreate the iconic cover as part of a public appeal to help raise £300,000 to complete the renovation. Works by Sir Peter, along with a vast array of a collection of ‘curios and oddments’ he has gathered over the years, will form an opening exhibition when the museum throws its doors open next year.
