Cowabunga! The Sex Pistols’ frontman Johnny Rotten has been confirmed to be appearing in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.

Back in the mid-’70s, there was no way that anyone could mistake the influence of the Sex Pistols. Led by frontman Johnny Rotten (known to his parents as John Lydon), the group were a mess of punk rock and outrage-provoking behaviour. Back then, no one could have guessed that the band’s singer might one day end up as the voice of a cartoon character.

As Yahoo! reports, John Lydon has been cast as one of the supporting characters in the new series, Rise Of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Voicing the character Meat Sweats, a “power hungry mutant pig” and former celebrity chef, this isn’t the first time that Johnny Rotten has dipped into the world of television, having taken part in a rather strange commercial for Country Life butter back in 2008.

At this stage, it’s not to clear how prominent Johnny Rotten’s role in the new series is going to be, but considering he makes a rather brief appearance in the series’ trailer (check it out below), we’re certain that his role is set to be rather memorable.

In other Johnny Rotten news, the singer has also been involved in an upcoming documentary which chronicles the origins of his post-Sex Pistols band, Public Image Ltd.

Featuring commentary from Moby, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, the Beastie Boys’ Adam Horovitz, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, the doco looks set to be a rather interesting insight into one of music’s most iconic group’s in the post-punk genre.

The upcoming documentary, titled The Public Image Is Rotten, is set to premiere on September 14th, while Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to premiere three days later, on September 17th on Nickelodeon.
