Having gone viral in days and debuted at number 3 on the ARIA charts, one of the most anticipated alternative records from Australia has emerged in the form of Northlane’s Singularity.
The experimental album commences with ‘Genesis’, a snap of the brutality and djent to follow. This merges into ‘Scarab’ – one of the tracks heard by fans prior to release.
Vocalist Adrian Fitipaldes throws down his menacing vocal chords on this track. His belching hoarse yells combine with an interchanging resonating roar.
The experimental elements continue with the metalcore structure intertwined with progressive riffs and explosive breakdowns. Next up is ‘Worldeater’ – the initial track released last year just before Northlane supported Parkway Drive across their Aussie dates.
The djent attitude drives the unique X factor of the band and contributes to their current stand-out status.
‘Quantum Flux’ is the absolute stand-out track on this record and may have caught the attention of the sceptics. The instrumental mood shifts from the harmonious introduction to the progressive chaos with Fitipaldes’ screams and numerous breakdowns.
‘Dream Awake’ is just as beautifully crafted as the vocalist steers the ship with his politically challenging lyrics.
‘Masquerade’ is one of the closers which features Drew York from Stray From the Path who Northlane are bringing on their Australian tour.
The track is driven by metalcore and progresses through yet another series of breakdowns as York jumps in for the final verse.
The record is already spreading like a plague and will surely reach all corners of the globe. Northlane have played all of their cards right with Singularity.
