Sleater-Kinney are arguably one of the finest and most critically-acclaimed indie punk bands of the last few decades, and now, we’ve received confirmation that the band are once again back in the studio recording a new album.
Having formed back in 1994, Sleater-Kinney quickly made a name for themselves as one of the hardest-working punk bands around. Following the recording of their self-titled debut album in Melbourne, the band made another six albums over the course of ten years.
Sadly, 2006 saw the band go on hiatus while its members pursued other projects. However, Sleater-Kinney reformed again in 2014 and released No Cities To Love, since considered to be one of their best works.
Since then, fans have been cautious about the band’s reunion, wondering if it will be a permanent thing or just a short-lived experience. Now, according to a new interview, it appears that the band have some pretty decent plans for the future.
Speaking to Billboard about the final season of sketch-comedy series Portlandia (which is set to feature some pretty amazing musical guest stars), Sleater-Kinney vocalist Carrie Brownstein announced that the group are indeed working on new music, but are taking things a bit slower than we’d like.
“Now, just so you know, we’re going to do this very slowly,” she explained, trying not to get fans’ hopes up too eagerly. “It’s an ongoing conversation.”
To be fair, it’s rather understandable that the band are approaching their music a bit slower than usual considering the amount of projects that Brownstein is currently working. In addition to the final season of Portlandia, Carrie Brownstein is also hard at work making her directorial debut with the feature-length comedy Fairy Godmother, which is set to be released at some point this year.
While Carrie Brownstein was unable to report on a timeline for when new music from Sleater-Kinney may be released, we’re just hoping it won’t be another ten-year wait between albums like last time.
