Soundwave, Australia’s biggest metal and hardcore music festival, has a bit of a history of bands pulling out out of the event. But the number of cancellations, replacements, and Spinal Tap-esque drummer mishaps that have plagued this year’s edition has become somewhat comical. It’s no slight on the festival, it remains one of the most well-oiled, successful, and beloved by bands, but it comes with the territory of the insane size of both the bands involved and the sheer size of the lineups, and with more than 70 bands playing Soundwave 2013, there was always going to be a few tweaks.
