Those who were lucky enough to witness the chaos that was Slipknot’s current live show when the band was here for the last Soundwave festival will remember the phenomenal stage setup the boys have put together for their latest tour.
If you weren’t there, recall everything you’ve ever associated with a Slipknot tour and turn the dial up to 11. It’s packed to the brim with stunning pyrotechnics, death-defying drum stunts, and all requisite Slipknot insanity one could expect.
But Slipknot’s stage setup is not only spectacular to watch, it’s incredibly dangerous to perform on. Everything has to be very carefully rehearsed and managed, because accidents can and do happen and one foot wrong can be fatal.
The folks at Loudwire recently met up with Slipknot percussionist Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan in Detroit. The brains behind many of Slipknot’s creative inspirations gave them an exclusive tour of the many dangers surrounding the band’s show.
For one thing, the backstage area is absolutely filled with propane and other flammable containers. If these aren’t managed properly, they could easily blow a venue to Hell. Clown even recalls a fairly recent incident where he nearly ended up burnt to a crisp.
