Snoop Dogg, *ahem* apologies, the artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg – following his recent rebirth as Snoop Lion for his forthcoming reggae-influenced album, Reincarnated – may be going by a new name, but as the saying goes ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.’
And even in the bizarre world of daytime soap operas, a cameo by Snoop turns the absurdity dial up a notch. According to Radio.com a video has been making the rounds featuring the rapper in a guest appearance on long-running daytime drama One Life To Live, a show not unlike The Bold & The Beautiful or Days Of Our Lives.
In the clip the rapper-turned-rasta confronts the teen character Matthew Buchanan in a sit down where Snoop assumes the role of older role model espousing his street wisdom. “Word on the street is you’re a daddy now,” says Snoop, offering up his advice on becoming a father.
“Tell me what you’ve seen,” asks Buchanan in the second clip. “Details aren’t important,” explains Snoop. “But long story short. What I’ve seen is a lot of really young dudes mess with a lot of young ladies, and a lot of ladies make babies.”
“Yeah I remember something about that in elementary school,” retorts the teenager. “Birds and the bees right?” fires back Snoop. “See this is the part of the story where the birds gets pregnant smart arse.”
Of course, where there’s Snoop there’s always a fire burning in a blunt and not even 20 seconds into the heart to heart Snoop digs around in his pocket and casually lights up, adding “you are really, really aggravating me right now.”
The rapper goes on to offer the blunt to the teenager, only to pull it away declaring “your parents would kill me”.
This isn’t the first time he’s lit up on screen either. Snoop also made an appearance on HBO’s Weeds where he laid down a track called ‘MILF Weed’ which you can watch here.
The cameo is just the latest publicity tool Snoop has been employing as he is hard at work promotion Snoop Lion is currently Snoop Dogg has been hard at working promoting Snoop Lion for his reggae album, Reincarnated which he released earlier this year.
“I wanted to make songs about the life I’m living now as a father and as a 41-year-old man, as opposed to always talking about my childhood and my upbringing,” said Snoop in an interview with The Guardian earlier this year about the change of direction.
“I don’t think it could have worked through rap because of my branding. I branded Snoop Dogg to be what he is, and it’s too late to change the brand. Gangsta. West coast, from the hood. Speaking for the lost generation – the gangstas, the drug dealers. And I did it 21 years straight, faithfully, till I couldn’t do it any more.”
But while blunts might make an interesting diversion form the monotony of TV shows, the habit has gotten the music star into a fair bit of trouble over the years, including getting him banned from Norway after he was caught carrying eight grams of marijuana on his person. As a result has been barred from entering the country for two years.
It’s not the fist time the rapper’s been banned from a country for his ‘lifestyle choices’. In 2007 alone, he was banned from the UK, The Hague in the Netherlands, and then running into visa problems in Australia resulting in Snoop getting banned from landing on our soil for over a year based on character grounds due to his previous criminal convcitions.
