As readers will no doubt recall, this year’s triple j Hottest 100 was fraught with controversy, centring on a seemingly never-ending Abbott and Costello sketch involving the J, BuzzFeed, and Taylor Swift.

The whole thing basically boiled down to BuzzFeed launching a viral campaign to get ‘Shake It Off’ into the Hottest 100 and triple j going, ‘Nah’. Let’s hope we can put the whole thing behind us.

After all, with the New Year nearly upon us, it’s almost Hottest 100 season. And believe it or not, the first prediction for what the countdown will look like has already arrived. Make no mistake, this is serious business.

As Pedestrian.tv reports, a blogger known as ‘Patrick’ has analysed the statistical patterns of past Hottest 100 countdowns and come up with a prediction for what the top 10 will look like, among other foretellings.

Amongst Patrick’s findings are that artists with multiple contenders in a single year have a far greater chance of moving up the list than artists with only one entry and an artist with a single entry topping the countdown has only happened three times.

Patrick also reckons Courtney Barnett, Tame Impala, The Wombats, and Florence & the Machine have the best shot at scoring multiple entries in this year’s list, with Florence poised to break Wolfmother’s record of most entires in a single list.

So, what does Patrick reckon the Top 10 will look like? This:

Lean On – Major Lazer, DJ Snake & MØ
Downtown – Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis et al
The Trouble With Us – Marcus Marr & Chet Faker
Do You Remember – Jarryd James
Hoops – The Rubens
Let It Happen – Tame Impala
Can’t Feel My Face – The Weeknd
Say My Name – Peking Duk & Benjamin Joseph
Hotline Bling – Drake
King Kunta – Kendrick Lamar
