Sons of the East have vowed to “push on” after a devastating fire tore through their Sydney studio, destroying almost all of their equipment and taking much of their new music with it.
The Sydney indie-folk trio shared the news on Thursday, saying they woke on Wednesday morning to learn that their studio had “completely burnt down”. Thankfully, no one was inside the studio when the fire broke out, they said, while all firefighters who attended the scene were also unharmed.
“They did an amazing job containing the fire and preventing it from spreading further,” the band said in a statement on Thursday afternoon.
They said they were still coming to terms with the scale of the loss, which included equipment, instruments and unreleased music.
“Almost all of our studio equipment has been destroyed, including instruments we’ve owned and toured with for decades. Our computers and backup drives, containing much of the new music we’ve been working on, were also lost in the blaze.”

They thanked fans, friends and members of the music community who had already reached out with messages of support and offers of replacement instruments and studio space. “We feel very supported and lucky to have such good people around us!” they said.
Despite the significant loss, Sons of the East assured fans the fire would not derail their upcoming plans.
“It’s a pretty devastating thing to wake up to, and we’re still trying to understand what’s happened, but regardless, we’ll push on,” they said. “We have very exciting things coming up and this isn’t going to stop us.”
