Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah may be keeping busy with the recently announced lineups for the forthcoming Harvest Festival and Aussie return of the Vans Warped Tour, but that hasn’t stopped him from talking up about his first and foremost music event.
Soundwave 2014 may be over six months away but Maddah has already been leaving a trail of clues on his fertile twitter account, including confirming that the bill is “pretty much full” for next year’s edition of the country’s biggest punk, metal, and hardcore festival.
While rumours abound that the newly reunited Nine Inch Nails could be a good bet for headlining, the outspoken promoter has confirmed that another band on the comeback trail won’t be appearing on the Soundwave 2014 lineup, as The Music reports.
In response to several fans querying Maddah about the appearance of emo-rock poster-childs Fall Out Boy on the upcoming Soundwave, the promoter has revealed that a major point of contention about billing has meant that fans will miss out seeing the band at the hard and heavy event.
@veetz89 they thought they should be one of the top 3 headliners. We disagreed.

Fall Out Boy were last in Australia for a whirlwind two-date stopover following the reveal of their comeback album Save Rock And Roll, playing in Sydney and Melbourne in March earlier this year. “Don’t get me wrong – I would absolutely love to play arena shows once again, but for now, it just seemed right to play the smaller shows,” said Patrick Stump in an interview with Tone Deaf about the tour. But Maddah won’t be the one to ensure they’ll be playing those stadiums based on his own fall out with the band.
@dennikaroseh @veetz89 Yep. They're certainly back. And probably better than ever. Doesn't make them a SW headliner!

In response to one badgering Fall Out Boy fan, Maddah further noted that the dispute between the band and festival organisers was what ultimately led them to ‘fuck off in a huff’ meaning their absence from the Soundwave 2014 bill altogether.
@SwiftStump Before I block you, here's a recap: they wanted to headline. They're not big/good enough to headline. They fucked off in a huff.

Though the emo-pop overlords will be missing in action, the rumour mill continues churning. Joining the aforementioned Nine Inch Nails as likely suspects for the 2014 bill include Warnnambool rockers Airbourne, the reunited Skunk Anansie, hard rock act Shinedown, Danish act Volbeat, heavy metal outfit Godsmack, Swedish glam metal outfit Crashdiet, while other industry whispers have name checked British hardcore act Lower Than Atlantis, fellow English alt-rock outfit Don Broco, Swedish metallers Dead By April.
Maddah has already admitted he feels it’s going to be difficult to top the 10th anniversary lineup of Soundwave 2013, which brought huge attendance numbers. But Soundwave 2014 will have some innovations, chiefly in the introduction of a new Japanese metal stage, featuring X Japan and Maximum The Hormone, as Maddah himself let slip along with the 2014 dates.
There’s sure to be a few more slips from the Soundwave honcho, intentional or otherwise as he keeps busy with his responsibilities with the Massive Attack-headlined Harvest 2013 lineup and dealing with the Warped Tour lineup, which has already lost H2O from its lineup.
