A US Presidential hopeful has found some new fans in indie rockers Spoon, with the group commending the young politician’s impromptu cover of their track.
Well, it seems as though the US Presidential race for 2020 is starting to well and truly heat up. While Donald Trump recently released a controversial campaign video, Texas’ Beto O’Rourke has said he’d love to reunite The Mars Volta for his potential inauguration concert.
Now, a video featuring US Mayor Pete Buttigieg has gone viral, attracting the attention of music-loving voters.
Back in February, a video of Buttigieg, who has been the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana for seven years, was posted online.
The short clip sees the 37-year-old ‘preparing’ for an event at California’s Scripps College by performing an instrumental rendition of Spoon’s 2002 single, ‘The Way We Get By’.
However, the clip has since gained a bit more traction after the Texas group shared the video on their own accounts while noting, “So this guy can do everybody’s job, huh?”
In his true affable fashion, Buttigieg was quick to respond, simply writing, “Hey it’s just the way I get by.”
Well, this is a novel form of prep:

Of course, this isn’t the first Presidential hopeful that Spoon have thrown their support behind, with the group also performing at a rally for fellow Democrat, Beto O’Rourke.
During the Senatorial race back in September, O’Rourke managed to slip in some lyrical references to The Clash’s 1979 track, ‘Clampdown’.
Just weeks later, Spoon appeared at a rally featuring O’Rourke where they covered ‘Clampdown’, undoubtedly in an attempt to not only show their support for the politician, but to also draw more attention to his ultimately-unsuccessful race to the Texas Senate.
Interestingly, Spoon aren’t the only supporters of Pete Buttgieg, with the politician teaming up onstage with Ben Folds at a concert in Indiana back in 2015.
“He and I went over the music quickly and he was obviously a very good pianist — no worries there,” Folds recently explained to Esquire of their collaboration. “It was a very difficult song he pulled off. I’m serious. He’s a fine player.”
However, with indie rock-loving names like Beto O’Rourke and Pete Buttigieg joining the race for the White House in 2020, it’s looking like America could soon be a much more rockin’ place once again.
