The New Music stage at St. Kilda Festival is always a great place to check out the latest talent in order to brag to your friends in a few years time that, “Oh yeah, I saw her play to a handful of people way before Triple J even knew who she was.” Who doesn’t wanna be that guy?

Organisers of St. Kilda Festival have revealed the ten bands that will be gracing the New Music Stage in 2017; the first confirmed line-up for the entire festival, and it’s as nicely varied as we’d expect.

The up and coming acts playing this year include Phia, Georgia Mulligan, Smoke Rings, David Spry, Thom Lion & The Tamers, WALLACE, The Harlots, Two Can, Sugar Fed Leopards and Destrends – definitely something for everyone.

They will be battling for $5,000, plus the opening slot on the Main Stage in 2018. Mitch King took out the prize last year, so make sure you catch him when he makes his triumphant return this year, and be sure to tell everyone within earshot that you voted for him last year, too.

For anyone who hasn’t had the pleasure, last year’s highlights should give you a good idea of what to expect from the beachside gathering:
