Suge Knight, the infamous CEO of Death Row Records, has pleaded no contest to the charge of voluntary manslaughter for the death of Terry Carter, as the Los Angeles Times reports. Carter was run over by Knight in early 2015 following an altercation in Southern California, Knight was taken into custody shortly after.
The plea deal will see Knight serve 22 years in prison, with an additional 6 years appended under the three-strikes law. Before sentencing Knight to 28 years imprisonment. Judge Ronald S. Coen addressed Carter’s family: “If it hasn’t been said to you by anyone else, let me tell you that my heart goes out you.”.
The hit-and-run followed an argument on the set of a commercial for the 2015 film Straight Outta Compton. The incident was captured by a surveillance camera at a Burger stall on January 29, 2015. The video shows Knight backing his car over a man, identified as Cle “Bone” Sloan — who survived— pulling forward and driving over Sloan again and continuing to fatally hit Carter before fleeing the scene.
Knight turned himself in to authorities the next day, originally pleading not guilty, claiming he acted in self-defence.
