We’ve got some massive news for all you live music fans out there, Sun Kil Moon are bringing their devastatingly captivating live show to Aussie shores early next year.

It’s been a massive year for Mark Kozelek, the man behind Sun Kil Moon, who dropped his critically acclaimed sixth full length record Benji, featuring the fan-favourite track ‘Carissa‘. The album guests musicians Steve Shelley, Will Oldham and Owen Ashworth and is considered by critics and fans alike as his finest piece of work.

Not surprisingly, Benji has made just about every single end of year best lists across the globe, with Triple J tastemaker Zan Rowe voting it her number one record of the year, saying, “The phrase ‘through great suffering, comes great art’ is tailor-made for Mark Kozelek. Seriously, the guy has experienced a world of pain in his lifetime and this latest opus Benji is entirely autobiographical and bloody depressing. But within that sadness lives incredible, jaw-dropping storytelling. Benji stops me in my tracks. It reminds me of the power of good songwriting. And makes me glad I’m not Mark Kozelek. It’s my number one album of 2014.”

Current laudits aside Mark Kozelek has an incredible back catalogue of music, which started in 1989 as the leader of Red House Painters and continues to this very day. He just released a Christmas album under the moniker Mark Kozelek (Mark Kozelek sings Christmas Carols). Some of his standout records in the 90s with Red House Painters include 1993’s Red House Painters 1 and 1995’s Ocean Beach. In the 2000s his most famous work include 2001’s Old Ramon with the Red House Painters, 2003’s Sun Kil Moon debut Ghosts Of The Great Highway and 2008’s April.

We’re super stoked to witness the tortured and talented artist in the flesh next year. Tickets are on sale 12pm Tuesday 23rd December, be sure to snap them out as we’re certain this will be a sell-out.
