Pop monolith Taylor Swift has copped an alarming share of stalkers over the course of her career. In July last year, Swift successfully took out a five-year restraining order on a fan who broke into her home wielding a rope, a knife and live ammunition.
On Friday, Swift was victim to another incident of stalking. 26-year-old Richard J. McEwan drove over 300km from his New Jersey home to Swift’s Rhode Island Mansion. Before McEwan shattered a glass door to enter the property, he practised some ol’ fashion etiquette and removed his shoes out of “politeness.”
As NJ.com reports, “McEwan later told investigators he took off his orange shoes when he got inside because he was taught it was polite to remove shoes when a guest in someone’s home.” He then proceeded to wander around the house until police arrived after a motion-detector alarm was triggered.
This marks the third attempted break-in to Swift’s Rhode Island property this year, and the first to succesfully enter the property. Swift was not at the property when the incident took place.
Back in July, a 32-year-old man, David Page Liddle, was arrested after authorities were alerted that he was acting suspiciously at park in Watch Hill — a short distance from Swift’s mansion. Liddle told police that he was trying to “catch up with Taylor Swift” so that he could gain advice on his music career. He was subjected to a search that unearthed a bat, 30 lock picks, a crowbar, gloves, a flashlight, screwdrivers and a rake.
Liddle was booked with possession of burglary tools and a weapon other than a firearm.
